BANGKOK (AP)–A bomb exploded Tuesday at a busy market in southern Thailand, wounding 28 people, seven of them seriously, police said.
Muslim separatist insurgents were suspected of setting off the bomb, which exploded in front of a food shop in a busy market in Yala province’s Muang district, said police Lt. Col. Jeerasit Lomae.
All 28 victims were Buddhist, he said. Thai Muslims are mostly ethnic Malays, and generally eat prepared foods different from those that were on sale at the shop.
Jeerasit said the bomb had been hidden in a drainage ditch in front of the shop.
