Dear John E. Carey
Peace and Freedom
Dear Sir,
I hope you and your team at the Peace and Freedom will be alright. Situation in tribal areas and other cities of Pakistan is still uncertain. Terrorists are trying to create terror and fear in the country. I think politicians can rightly be held responsible for the mess in Pakistan. They have just playing the politics.
Most of the political parties have been extending support of terrorists. Today a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a Pakistani security force checkpost in North Waziristan tribal region, killing eight policemen and wounding 10 others, security officials and a doctor said.
The attack occured near Mir Ali town , where senior al Qaeda leader, Abu Laith al-Libi, was killed in a missile attack in the area, apparently fired by a U.S. drone this week.
A doctor at the government hospital in Miranshah, the region’s main town, said the bodies of two policemen and 10 wounded men had been brought in. Caretaker Minister for Interior Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Nawaz Khan has asked political parties to take a ‘clear stand’ on the issue of terrorism. In an interview with a private television channel, he warned the parties against going soft on terrorists and extremists and said it could help such elements in regrouping and harming the country.
He said that terrorism was a national issue and all mainstream political parties must take a clear stand on it.
He said that some major political parties had been reluctant in declaring their strategy to counter terrorism during their election campaigns, adding that they had not proposed any measure to eradicate the menace if voted into power.
“Political parties should convey their clear stance on terrorism,” he said.
The minister underlined the need of keeping a strict check on facilitators of terrorists and extremists in the country. He said the involvement of foreign elements in terrorist activities could not be ruled out.
He urged ulema to play a role in creating awareness among the masses about the true spirit of Islam, which is a religion of peace and brotherhood and does not allow anybody to take lives of innocent people.
About the law and order situation in the NWFP and the tribal areas, he said the local people were cooperating with the government against militants. Here I reproduced the editorial of a Pashto language newspaper, Hewad.
In his speech to the World Economic Forum, Afghan President Hamid Karzai once again called for the attention of the world community to the activities of extremists in the region, especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said that the recent incidents in Pakistan showed that extremism and terrorism could spread to other countries in the region within no time. He added that the countries in the region must do away with the temptation to use extremist forces for their ulterior motives. The world community, he stated, must try to find out the root causes and sources of extremism and help Pakistan and Afghanistan eliminate extremism and terrorism from the region instead of only giving advice…According to the Afghan president…if the international community fails to identify the causes and the fountainhead of extremism and terrorism, and fails to take concrete steps to combat the curse, the world might once again face something like the two world wars.
Pakistan and Afghanistan needed to be supported, he said. If … left alone at this crucial juncture, the fire of extremism and terrorism might engulf the whole region and then the whole world…It is high time that the international community paid heed to the analysis by Hamid Karzai and supported the alliance of Afghanistan and Pakistan to obliterate extremism and terrorism and help these two frontline countries to boost their economy and infrastructure. The root causes and sources of extremism and terrorism must be … found out if the world community is interested in rooting out the curse. The leadership of the two countries has to join hands to fight obscurantist forces responsible for maligning the name of Islam and Muslims throughout the world.Dear Sir, thank you very much for your continued cooperation. I want to tell you that we with your cooperation can give a crushing defeat to terrorism. Musharraf must remain in power till the elimination of terrorism. Presently terrorism is big problem for Pakistan and whole world.
Again thank you very much,
Yours sincerely,
Muhammad Khurshid
